He came to earth in an unusual way, a virgin you say?

Come now, who would believe it?

Even Joseph, her betrothed did not…

Until an angel from heaven told him it was so.

He came on a day like any other.

No one took notice,

though a mighty host filled the evening sky…

declaring the Holy One of God was here;

And only the shepherds heard.

Such a mysterious and odd way for God to visit us…

Why not a grand entrance to prove His existence?

But, this pleased Him so, “…for without faith it is impossible to please Him.”

Alas, it was not only His coming which was foretold,

But the way He left His world…

His creatures put Him on a cross you see,

When He told them who He was and where He had come from.

They could not believe God would look like this…

And they did not believe God would talk like this…

So they closed their ears…

And shook their heads and said “…if you’re really Him –

Come down from the cross!  Then, surely we will believe!”

You see, He left His throne in Heaven for sinners that day;

And they missed His entrance through the womb of a virgin…

Surely, I would not have believed it either, had I been there.

I would have closed my ears and shook my head too…

But He didn’t come down from the cross that day,

And I’m so glad…

For He left His kingdom to die in my place…

Who would believe it?  Could you believe it?

Emmanuel, Emmanuel, God with us…

How could we miss such a day?

The day God left His throne,

Because of how much He loved the world…
