“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1 There’s always a cost in being set free. Those forgetting this, soon fail to appreciate what they have been given. A slave released from years of bondage wouldn’t need to be informed that it was for his freedom that … Continue reading Remember the Cost
Peter declared, “Even if all fall away I will not”. “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today yes tonight, before the rooster crows twice, you yourself will disown Me three times.” But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never disown You.” And all the others said the same. Mark 14:29-31 Sometimes our greatest strength can be our greatest … Continue reading What Comes Easy For You?
“For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5 The dark can be a scary place. My imagination runs to places I never think of in a lit room. I have never felt comfortable in the darkness. When I was a young boy, my older cousins tied … Continue reading Called Out Of The Dark
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in You” Psalm 56:3 Suddenly, as we went about minding our business, the voices interrupted our daily lives. They got louder and more persistent. Doubts were planted into our hearts and we were afraid to go outside. We worried about our kids. We began to avoid other people, including our families. Fear is real and cripples us, … Continue reading Don’t Be Afraid
But Abraham replied…”between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.” He answered, “Then I beg you father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have 5 brothers. Let him warn them so that they will not also come to this … Continue reading Entrusted with the Gospel
As the years pass and the end of the journey draws near, I recall those dreams of yesterday. If I could capture them, I would keep them forever. I remember many that were once walking on the earth with us. Family, friends, and the great and small. Yesterday they were in the land of the living, then Someone came and took them away. Life is … Continue reading YESTERDAY
“One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at Him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save Yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God since we are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this Man has done nothing wrong.” Luke 23:39-41 When I read a book, I read the … Continue reading The Best Short Story Ever Told
The first time I began to hear His voice brought me discomfort and fear. I stayed away as long as possible. He persisted and shined a bright light on the utter darkness of my heart. Then in my worst despair He brought me close to the cross where my sins were paid. My tears flowed. He brings me back to this place often to remind … Continue reading More than a Helper
When I was 20 years old, I made a promise to a young, 19-year-old girl. I was in love and I intended to commit my life to her. As I stood before all those witnesses, I pledged my devotion to her until one of us died. That was my hope and yet I knew I could not guarantee the future. God is different. He makes … Continue reading The Guarantee of our Future
There is a door of death that awaits us all. When this door opens it does so quickly and often without warning. It ushers us into eternity, then closes securely behind us, never allowing us re-entry into this world again. We’re not alarmed when old people die. But, when others leave this world early, it causes us to think about things we may not want … Continue reading Close to the End
